Welcome Addison O'Neill Chidester who joined the world at 2:53 pm weighing in at 5 lbs 3 oz. Congratulations to Rachel, Jeff and big brother Tyler! Addison is in the special care nursery with her dad, soon to be joined by her mom. We pray that everything checks out okay and that we can visit her soon!
And, we said our final goodbyes to Mrs. Pearl Davis today. It was ironic that I received Rachel's text message during the time that I was attending Mrs. Davis' funeral. (No, I didn't have my phone on, but I got the message as soon as the service was over.) Although I did not personally know Pearl, I'm so glad that I was able to make it to the funeral in support of Greg. The bear hug that I received from him when I got there spoke much more than words could ever say.
Of all of the funerals I have ever attended this was one of the most uplifting services by far. A pretty amazing feat considering Pearl was only 53 years old and we are still unsure of her cause of death. I found myself lifted to my feet, clapping my hands with the choir and ready to break out into dance on several occasions, a few times even when the people next to me were still in their seats. It takes a lot for me to put myself out there, but when I was surrounded by loved ones shouting, "praise the lord" and dancing in Pearl's honor it was hard not to get swept up in the grace of God that that was in that church today. The Community Concert Choir learned one of Pearl's favorite songs, Going Up Yonder, in one day, and just about blew the roof off of the church. While it is raining on Greg and his daughters now, and those of us close to them are damp with sadness, God will be there to comfort them dry their tears. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Davis family as they grieve and move forward knowing that Pearl is singing her heart out in heaven tonight.
