Shared Custody

Yes, sounds more exciting than it is;) Once a month at our faculty meetings our mascot, a stuffed hornet, is passed along to a deserving teacher. Our principal started the tradition at the beginning of the year, so the hornet has had two homes so far. During our meeting this morning Leslie and I became the first dual recipients of the hornet!

Carrie passed the hornet along to us for our willingness to have her functional skill students join us for science class, although it is not part of their formal schedule. I have two of her students and their aid in my class and Leslie has the other two students in her class. It totally changes the dynamic of the room to have students in wheelchairs and/or with severe disabilities. With that said, it changes the room for the GOOD! I have always loved working with Carrie's kids because they are so sweet and they bring out the best in the other students.

So for the next month or so, Leslie and I will have shared custody of the hornet, which just happens to look a bit like a bumblebee:) We'll have to give him a name, as he will be joining us for our final Egg Drop on Friday! We hope to photograph his appearance at many of our upcoming science events and school events. Maybe he'll have Halloween Snacks with us during Activity Period this Friday??....we are making Scarecrow Crunch and Eye-Scream Sweets.
