I was blessed to have dinner with a very special friend, Courtney, this evening. We have both struggled with fertility issues and pregnancy loss during the last few years. She is truly an amazing person and someone who I look to for strength during the ups and downs of this long journey that we are on. Courtney shared the October 15th website with me this evening and although we just missed the walk in Virginia, it is a site that is meaningful to both of us.
The journey that we are on is a difficult one to talk about in general, but even more difficult for those who don't understand what it is like firsthand. It is always comforting for me to talk to someone who can relate to all of the doctor's visits, infertility lingo, and emotions. We are both so used to hearing all of the "positive" from our family and friends that it was nice to hear someone agree with the reality of the situation...it sucks, it's not fair, it's depressing, etc. As Kimberly, our school counselor, told me last week, it is fine to feel happy for everyone else and still allow yourself to feel sorry for yourself. I'm trying to get better at doing this, but it is hard not to feel guilty and actually own my emotions.

Please join us and light a candle for the baby that we lost, the two babies that Courtney lost, and the millions that have been lost around the world on this night.
