Vet Visit

I've debated about taking the Dixie and Maddie to the vet for the last two weeks. Dixie's eye has been runny and irritated since she got groomed, which brings back awful memories of Maddie's chemical burn from the groomer, and Maddie has been limping for at least a couple of weeks now. I made one appointment and canceled it because I thought they were both getting better and didn't want to waste money, but changed my mind again today and took them both in.

I'm glad that I did. Dixie has pink eye, no chemical burn thank the lord! It is easily treated with eye drops. Maddie on the other hand completely surprised me. Rich and I thought that her right shoulder was bothering her because she wakes up really stiff and has to stretch it out and limp for a while before she can get going. There is a huge fatty tumor near her shoulder which we thought may be interfering with her movement. Nope, not the case at all. Dr. L started the exam at her foot and didn't have to go further. Maddie was in extreme pain when he touched her third toe. He promptly did an x-ray and luckily there was no fracture, but there was a really bad sprain with possible torn ligaments in her foot. We are treating her with pain medication, anti-inflammatory meds, and no walks/movement for two weeks. If things improve then we won't have to put her in a splint (can you say nightmare?). We have to pick her up to get on and off the couch or bed and carry her up the stairs. She is going to be miserable tomorrow when she can't go for a walk. As soon as I put on my sneakers she is the first one bouncing around the house waiting to go out. I'm not quite sure how I'm going to be able to pull this one off because Dixie and Tank still need to be walked or they'll go nuts as well. Baby carrier?? Back pack?? Stroller??
