Legs

My sports conditioning class started on Monday. I wasn't quite sure what the kids expected so I had many different plans that I could put into action. I should have known that they wouldn't know what they wanted to do and were half asleep from getting to school so early, so my anxiety was put to rest. We went for a 20 minute run, did some stretching, and then headed to the fitness room. After doing a quick safety talk, I introduced them to an arm workout. I don't know why I was under the impression that middle school students would have any knowledge of muscle groups or how to lift weights, but they clearly had no idea how to work biceps and triceps so I had to do a lot of coaching. They were pretty cute trying to figure it out and eventually most of them got it and were off lifting 5 lb dumbbells. Today was another good day of running, agility training, and a leg workout. I'm absolutely loving getting to workout before the day gets started and teaching the little stinkers something as well.

I just have to keep reminding myself that most 11-13 year olds are not asking for weight benches for Christmas like I did in 8th grade!!! I clearly remember setting up my own circuits and logging all of my workouts at the age of 13. By the time I was in high school, I was completing upwards of 1200 crunches at a time. Can we say crazy?? Hopefully I won't go that nuts again, but I definitely feel the motivation coming back!! It was lost for a long time and I am certainly happy to see it return, as will be my pants that have been in the back of the closet for months. I will surely be hobbling around tomorrow from the leg workout today.
