Dixie came out of her surgery Friday with a few more stitches than we anticipated. She had the tumor on her lower eyelid removed, teeth cleaned, and 7 fatty tumors removed from her chest, abdomen, and sides. Dr. L warned us that she may look like "Frankendog" before he brought her out and it's a good thing that he did. She has several incisions that are close to 4 inches long, which means lots and lots of sutures. Her eye looks really good, even with several sutures.
Friday evening was pretty rough. It's a good thing that Dr. L realized that she was in a lot more pain than he would like when he brought her out to us because I don't know what we would have done without the added pain meds. Luckily, she is doing a lot better and is even going on short walks. We have to keep her in the kennel when we aren't here so that Tank doesn't try to lick at her sutures. Dixie, on the other hand, has done amazingly well without the e-collar the last couple of days. We'll keep our fingers crossed that things continue to heal during the next two weeks. We go back for suture removal next Friday.
On a side note, we have not been the healthiest family the since school started. I usually get by with one winter cold or sinus infection, but I haven't felt right since the kids returned this year. I really hope this is not a sign of things to come! Rich came down with the same sort of junk yesterday, but seems to be fighting it off better than I did. I'm pretty sure I had a double ear infection from the pain that awoke me Saturday night, so I started some antibiotics and feel considerably better today. Let's hope they do the trick so I do not have to miss school for a doctor's appointment! Might not be too bad though now that I have half my family working for me;) Becky, Rich, and my mom all subbed at school on Friday. If there are any perks to being the sub coordinator, this may be the only one!
