Broken tootsie

My foot has been bothering me for a good 8 weeks now, but I kept putting it off as just a strain. Over the last two weeks the pain has really started to get to me, so I went to the doctor a couple of weeks ago and he said I had gout. I wasn't convinced that this was the problem and realized that I needed to go back to the doctor after I was tempted to go to the ER all weekend because of the excruciating pain. My toes looked like sausages last night and I only got a couple hours of sleep because of the throbbing pain in my big toe joint.

I'm glad I took the day off and I'm glad that I pushed the podiatrist to take x-rays today because he found what I suspected, a fractured sesamoid bone. He put me in an air cast boot for four weeks, but said that these are the kinds of injuries that linger because they are hard to treat. Just what I need, no exercise around the holidays! On a positive note, the boot has actually kept the pain down some while walking.

(Jessica wanted to be sure the boot would be in the picture.)
