Lots of craziness

and, no, i'm not exaggerating at all.  I've been reluctant to blog about what is going on with the kids, but this is the short version....

After our big team meeting the decision was made to change the goal from "return home" to "permanent foster care."  In other words, the kids will not be going back to live with their mother and her rights will be terminated on December 15th as long as the judge agrees with the team decision.  Instead they will be living with us until they are 18 or 21.  Great, right?  Yes and no.

Evan spoke up for himself at the meeting and said flat out that he wanted to come back to our house to live permanently.  We've been really stressing that he needs to look out for himself and be selfish at times because he always gets lost in the middle, but even we were surprised at his announcement.  So proud of this kid for advocating for himself!

On the other hand, Jess got a taste of freedom, old friends, and old habits while at her mom's house and wanted to return to that lifestyle.  So without too many details, she got into a mess of trouble and was placed back in our house even before the team meeting.  After the meeting, Evan moved back in with us and we had a week or so of normal living arrangements with the kids.  It is a lot harder on Jess to go through transitions and be pulled back and forth between living arrangements so she continued to spiral downhill, ending with a move out of our house to a teen living facility for a few days.

Our plan was to go there last night, meet with her, and explain our expectations for her return home.  However, she is still spiraling out of control and ran away with another resident before we could get there.  She is still missing as I type.  I am praying that she will be found quickly so that we can get her the help that she desperately needs.  This whole situation has been extremely stressful on all of us and I just hope that it gets resolved sooner than later.
