Last month we legally became permanent foster parents to Evan. Permanent foster parents have more rights than regular foster parents....we can sign for him if he wants to join the military or get married or all kinds of other craziness and the county doesn't ask for nearly as much from us. They don't have to check in every month, but instead only twice a year. It's almost to the level of adoption. Adoption wasn't a suitable option for Evan since he's just about to turn 17. It would just be weird for everyone. However, this change in care makes it official that we will permanently be here for him with support.
He asked me the other day if he can call me "Fom" short for Foster Mom. I guess it's a good thing that I said that works for me because that's what all of his friends apparently already call me. hahaha.
We are still working with Jess once a week through family therapy. The plan is for her to return in December if she is committed to coming back and being a productive part of this family. We shall see what happens!
